New Booklet Highlights Results of the Diabetes Prevention Program

Am I at Risk for Type 2 Diabetes?, now available from NDIC, describes the steps that people can take to lower the risk of getting type 2 diabetes.Image of Am I at Risk for Type 2 Diabetes? publication cover. The booklet summarizes the findings of the Diabetes Prevention Program, a recently concluded federally funded study of 3,234 people at high risk for diabetes, which showed that a combination of a low-fat, low-calorie diet and moderate exercise lowers the risk for type 2 diabetes.

This publication, illustrated with multi-ethnic photographs, includes recommendations for screening tests and a checklist of risk factors. The booklet outlines ways to lower the risk of diabetes, emphasizing reasonable body weight, wise food choices, and regular exercise. Behavior change strategies are also addressed.
