Financial Help Publication From NDIC

Diabetes treatment is expensive, and people diagnosed with diabetes often need help in paying some of the bills. One of NDIC's latest publications, Financial Help for Diabetes Care, lists a variety of government and nongovernment programs that provide assistance to people with diabetes.

The fact sheet has information about

  • finding health insurance and keeping it after leaving a job

  • how managed care programs operate

  • government health care services such as the Bureau of Primary Health Care and the Department of Veterans Affairs

  • free or reduced-charge medical services at hospitals for people with low incomes, through the Hill-Burton Act

  • government assistance if kidney dialysis is required

  • assistance for prescription drugs and medical supplies, prostheses, classroom services, assistive technology, and food and nutrition programs

Organizations that provide more information or assistance are listed in each section, along with contact information. In addition to national organizations, readers are also directed to several local resources.
